Amina Osei teaches history at a public secondary school in Accra. Three years ago her classroom joined a partnership linking Ghanaian and American schools through shared curriculum on the African and Caribbean diaspora.
The exchange was designed to move in both directions: her students shaped the material their American counterparts read, and their questions changed how the U.S. side taught the subject.
"There was an assumption that we would receive something," she says. "What actually happened is that we made something together."
